SMART WATER GOVERNANCE USING BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

Lead: Anik Bhaduri

The objective of this working group will be to address both water quantity as well as water quality trading market and develop a blockchain application platform that will eliminate the market distortions in both trading, by reducing information asymmetry and providing clarity over ownership and history of assets. Drawing on foundations in theoretical microeconomics, the proposed research project will identify the private values of wastewater and environmental assets that will determine the operating space for the blockchain technology. The proposed project will help to understand the boundary conditions for efficient functioning of water quality and quantity trading based on blockchain Technology. This research will support the necessary growth in sustainable decentralised water solutions and related information and governance models.
